Some of the most exciting information that has come from research in plastic surgery in the last ten years is how the face ages. We are learning that the most crucial changes occur in the soft tissue layers of the face, the most critical being the fat layers. The aging process then is a gradual loss of volume more than anything else which accounts for the sagging and deflated look we are familiar with as people approach their fifties, sixties, and seventies. But the process is already beginning as early as the third decade of life!

To address this then, instead of surgical procedures that only tighten tissues, often with a very unnatural look, the obvious approach is to replenish those lost soft tissue compartments. The hallmark of a youthful face is a full face, with plump curves that blend from the forehead to the brow, through the temple and upper cheek. The jawline should flow seamlessly into the chin and mouth without obvious grooves or creases. And of course the lips should be naturally shaped and just slightly plump.

These soft volumes once lost can only be recreated with fillers. Commercial fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Artefill are excellent choices for small volumes, but become very expensive in larger volumes. FAT GRAFTING (lipo-filling) is the latest wonder treatment for the aging face because it is readily available in most people, over 50% of the transferred fat survives, and your fat is full of stem cells that improve the quality of your skin. Once the face has the more fullness and the youthful shape restored, the majority of facelifts and eyelid procedures are “mini” – most of the laxity has been taken up by reshaping with the fat.

Visit my photo gallery to see examples of this new wonder treatment of fat grafting at www.doctorptak.com.

Welcome to my blog! There is certainly a tremendous amount of confusing and often contradictory information, whether it’s about breast surgery, facelifts, body lifts, body contouring, lasers, skincare, or any number of the many exciting topics in the wide field of plastic surgery today. Beware of the source of this information, however! Unfortunately, much of the information on internet websites, nightly news programs, and weekly periodicals are full of misleading and self serving propaganda that only encourages you to “buy” something you may not need, or worse, that may cost you many times the original cost to fix if done incorrectly or even the wrong procedure was done altogether! The American Board of Plastic is the only certifying board of plastic surgery in the United States and is the most respected world wide. Always check the credentials and the experience of your surgeon, and if you need more information go to surgery.org, the website of The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, where you will find a wealth of information on our specialty of cosmetic surgery. Most of all, I would like you to feel free to send me your questions about any procedure and use the expertise of my staff and me to become the most informed patient you can be. You can reach us at patientinfo@doctorptak.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

When planning for breast augmentation surgery, patients must choose the type of their implants.

Implants approved the FDA are filled with saline or silicone. And, breast implants come in a variety of sizes, shapes and textures to suit a woman’s body type and preferences.

Saline breast implants have solid silicone rubber outer shells filled with sterile salt water. The implants are filled at the time of surgery.

Silicone-filled breast implants have solid silicone rubber outer shell filled with cohesive silicone gel. Patients tend to think that silicone implants feel more natural.

If a saline-filled implant breaks, its contents are harmlessly absorbed by the body within hours. A definite change in the size of the breast is clearly noticed. The implant may be removed and replaced if desired. If a silicone implant is used, a rupture may not be immediately obvious. Your may notice that your breasts seem to change shape, feel different, or start to have capsular contracture. A ruptured silicone implant should be removed and if desired, replaced.

My philosophy and vision for breast augmentation surgery is to achieve a very natural and proportioned result that balances and brings into harmony the features of the feminine body. Female breasts should be just full enough to entice the imagination but should never be so full that they become disproportioned or unmanageable.

The result should have the smallest hidden scar possible and be so natural that even your personal physician would be fooled.

You can get more information about breast augmentation from my website, www.doctorptak.com for more information.

I believes that plastic surgery is a true blend of art and science, with the power to renew and rejuvenate. The fundamental roots of plastic surgery are in reconstructing and restoring. I believe it can fundamentally change how a person sees themselves.

There are an incredible array of tools and techniques that I utilize to attain each patient’s goal. However, the key to successful outcomes lies in listening to make sure I know what each patient is looking wants.

Whether a treatment plan involves plastic surgery of the face, breast or body or entails non-surgical solutions, I want patients to feel comfortable participating in the process. I believe in building very solid relationships with my patients and want to help each one look and feel their best in a soul-centered way.

My Scottsdale plastic surgery office features a full medi-spa offering beauty treatments such as laser skin treatments, Thermage, photofacials and massage therapy.

I am always available to my patients and I genuinely care about the results and stand by my work.
